Frequently asked questions

1. How do you charge the Ecobike batteries?
All our batteries are removable. All Ecobike bicycles come with a 220-volt battery charger. To charge the battery, first connect the charger to the battery connector and then plug it into the mains. A complete charge will take 4-8 hours and will be indicated by LEDs on the charger. While charging, the LED on the charger will be red. When the battery is charged, the LED in the charger will turn green.

2. When must I change the batteries in my Ecobike?
The life of a lithium battery is approximately 2 years and lead batteries last for 1 year. The service life of the battery also depends on its correct usage

3. Where can I get new batteries for my Ecobike when they are exhausted?
New batteries can be obtained in authorised centres. Ecobike recommends that the batteries be replaced in the same authorised centre, to ensure they are correctly recycled.

4. How long does the motor of an Ecobike last?
The motor in Ecobike bicycles is sealed. It is guaranteed for two years and it has a service life of approximately ten years.

5. What is the autonomy of an Ecobike?
From 25 to 70 Km depending on the model of bicycle and type of battery. Factors that directly condition autonomy: Weight, the terrain, use of the accelerator, braking, start-ups, etc.

6. How can I modify my Ecobike?
Most components used in the Ecobike are conventional. The components that must not be modified are the electrical parts.

7. If my Ecobike breaks down, where can I get it repaired?
Repairs on conventional components can be carried out by any competent bicycle workshop. Regarding the electrical part, repairs must be carried out by authorised workshops or in Ecobike's Central Technical Service.

8. Can my Ecobike be used in the rain?
If the bike gets wet while riding or while parked outdoors, Ecobike recommends drying the electrical parts with a cloth (battery connectors, batteries, light controller) before starting the motor again.

9. Will the motor work if I stop pedalling?
No. In compliance with current regulations, electric bicycle motors must stop when you stop pedalling.

10. Does the bike need any sort of homologation?
All our electric bicycles comply with European regulations: 2002/24/EC.
This regulation establishes the following points that differentiate it from a moped and enable it to be classified as a conventional bicycle:
The motor must stop when you stop pedalling.
The motor must stop when you exceed 25 Km./h.
The power of the motor must not exceed 250 W.

11. Are the batteries very heavy?
Lithium batteries weigh from 2.8 to 3.5 Kg depending on their amperage. Lead batteries weigh about 12 Kg.

12. Can the batteries be charged while you are pedalling?
The batteries are not charged by the bicycle in movement. This technique supplies little supplementary energy and is not very recommendable for the battery.

13. What is the energy consumption of an electric bicycle?
The consumption per 100km is 1kw/h.

14. Do you need a licence or any type of insurance to ride an electric bicycle?
In contrast to motorcycles and cars, electric bicycles need no insurance to ride on the open road.

15. Must I wear a helmet?
Helmets are not compulsory for urban cycling in Europe. Although we recommend the use of a helmet when riding any type of bicycle.

16. Can I use bicycle lanes?
Yes. One of the advantages of this vehicle in comparison to others such as motorcycles is that you can also use bicycle lanes. /h
